Washington is a somewhat small borough located in the state of New Jersey. With a population of 7,335 people and two associated neighborhoods, Washington is the 255th largest community in New Jersey. Washington has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic boroughs.Washington is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Washington is a borough of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. Even though Washington is a smaller borough, it has many people who hop on public transportation – mostly the bus for their daily commute to work. This equates to an annual income of $138,084 for a family of four. However, Washington contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. Washington is a very ethnically-diverse borough. The people who call Washington home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Washington residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Washington also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 12.07% of the borough’s residents.
