Foley is a medium-sized coastal city (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Alabama. With a population of 24,873 people and five associated neighborhoods, Foley is the 32nd largest community in Alabama. Foley has seen a significant amount of newer housing growth in recent years. Quite often, new home construction is the result of new residents moving in who are middle class or wealthier, attracted by jobs, a healthy local economy, or other amenities as they leave nearby or far away areas for greener pastures. This seems to be the case in Foley, where the median household income is $67,346.00. Foley real estate is some of the most expensive in Alabama, although Foley house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.Foley is neither predominantly blue-collar nor white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Foley is a city of sales and office workers, service providers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Foley who work in office and administrative support (16.52%), sales jobs (15.28%), and management occupations (9.82%). Also of interest is that Foley has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US. Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 9.60% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes. It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Foley has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Foley has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Foley than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Foley may be for you. One of the nice things about Foley is that it is nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Because of this, visitors and locals will often go to these areas to take in the scenery or to enjoy waterfront activities. Being a small city, Foley does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.In terms of college education, Foley is somewhat better educated than the 21.84% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 26.34% of adults 25 and older in the city have at least a bachelor's degree. The per capita income in Foley in 2022 was $36,967, which is wealthy relative to Alabama, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $147,868 for a family of four. However, Foley contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. Foley is a very ethnically-diverse city.
