Tryon profile

Living in Tryon

Tryon is a very small town located in the state of North Carolina. With a population of 1,595 people and three constituent neighborhoods, Tryon is the 343rd largest community in North Carolina.

Tryon real estate is some of the most expensive in North Carolina, although Tryon house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Of important note, Tryon is also a town of artists. Tryon has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Tryon’s character.

A relatively large number of people in Tryon telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 16.04% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Tryon has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Tryon has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Tryon than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Tryon may be for you.

Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Tryon spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 17.48 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the town are less than they would otherwise be.

Being a small town, Tryon does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

The education level of Tryon ranks among the highest in the nation. Of the 25-and-older adult population in Tryon, 48.97% have at least a bachelor's degree. The typical US community has just 21.84% of its adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree.

The per capita income in Tryon in 2018 was $34,513, which is upper middle income relative to North Carolina and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $138,052 for a family of four. However, Tryon contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Tryon is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Tryon home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Tryon residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Tryon include English, German, British, Irish, and Scots-Irish.
