Cameron Profile

Overview

Cameron is a tiny coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Louisiana. With a population of 315 people and just one neighborhood, Cameron is the 302nd largest community in Louisiana. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new house, and in Cameron, you'll find that a large proportion of houses were recently built. New growth in residential real estate is an indication that people are choosing to move to Cameron, and putting down their money on brand new construction. Cameron’s real estate is, on average, some of the newest in the nation. Cameron does seem to be experiencing an influx of affluent people, because the median household income is $48,370.00.

Cameron real estate is some of the most expensive in Louisiana, although Cameron house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

Cameron is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 87.72% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Cameron is a town of professionals, managers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Cameron who work in healthcare (27.19%), business and financial occupations (22.81%), and maintenance occupations (13.16%).

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 11.40% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Cameron is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.

The overall crime rate in Cameron is one of the lowest in the US. This makes it one of the safer places to live in the country in terms of crime.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Cameron has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Cameron a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Cameron is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.

Cameron is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Cameron Demographics

The citizens of Cameron are very well educated compared to the average community in the nation: 39.34% of adults in Cameron have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.

The per capita income in Cameron in 2018 was $25,944, which is upper middle income relative to Louisiana, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $103,776 for a family of four. However, Cameron contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Cameron home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Cameron residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Cameron include French, German, Italian, Irish, and Yugoslavian.

The most common language spoken in Cameron is English. Other important languages spoken here include French and Spanish.
