Cordova Profile

Overview

Cordova is a very small coastal city (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Alaska. With a population of 2,169 people and just one neighborhood, Cordova is the 25th largest community in Alaska.

Cordova home prices are not only among the most expensive in Alaska, but Cordova real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

When you are in Cordova, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 40.84% of Cordova’s employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 27.7% that do. Overall, Cordova is a city of sales and office workers, farmers, fishers, or foresters, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Cordova who work in farm management occupations (22.63%), sales jobs (15.81%), and office and administrative support (13.14%).

Of important note, Cordova is also a city of artists. Cordova has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Cordova’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

The overall crime rate in Cordova is one of the lowest in the US. This makes it one of the safer places to live in the country in terms of crime.

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Cordova has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Cordova has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Cordova than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Cordova may be for you.

Cordova is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.

Residents of the city have the good fortune of having one of the shortest daily commutes compared to the rest of the country. On average, they spend only 12.55 minutes getting to work every day.

Cordova Demographics

The overall education level of Cordova citizens is substantially higher than the typical US community, as 29.29% of adults in Cordova have at least a bachelor's degree, and the average American community has 21.84%.

The per capita income in Cordova in 2018 was $38,190, which is wealthy relative to Alaska and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $152,760 for a family of four. However, Cordova contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Cordova is an extremely ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Cordova home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Cordova residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Cordova include German, Irish, English, European, and Italian.

The most common language spoken in Cordova is English. Other important languages spoken here include Tagalog and Italian.
