Wentworth Profile

Overview

Wentworth is a tiny village located in the state of South Dakota. With a population of 194 people and just one neighborhood, Wentworth is the 122nd largest community in South Dakota. Much of the housing stock in Wentworth was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic villages in the country.

Wentworth real estate is some of the most expensive in South Dakota, although Wentworth house values don't compare to the most expensive real estate in the U.S.

Occupations and Workforce

When you are in Wentworth, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 59.14% of Wentworth’s employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 27.7% that do. Overall, Wentworth is a village of production and manufacturing workers, construction workers and builders, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Wentworth who work in food service (8.60%), personal care services (7.53%), and business and financial occupations (7.53%).

Setting & Lifestyle

It is a fairly quiet village because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Wentworth has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Wentworth has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Wentworth than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Wentworth may be for you.

Wentworth is a very car-oriented village. 97.83% of residents commute to work in a private automobile rather than by other means, such as public transit, bicycling, or walking. This is because Wentworth is a small village , and most people who live here have to drive out of town for work, and the town population is not large nor dense enough to support an extensive public transportation system. Wentworth has a lot of rural roads, and houses can be far apart. Many residents drive out of town for regular shopping trips as well.

As is often the case in a small village, Wentworth doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Wentworth Demographics

The citizens of Wentworth are slightly less educated than the national average of 21.84% for the average city or town: 16.87% of adults in Wentworth have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree

The per capita income in Wentworth in 2018 was $23,185, which is lower middle income relative to South Dakota and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $92,740 for a family of four.

The most common language spoken in Wentworth is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Polish.
