Medusa Profile

Overview

Medusa is a very small town located in the state of New York. With a population of 1,826 people and just one neighborhood, Medusa is the 590th largest community in New York. Much of the housing stock in Medusa was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

Occupations and Workforce

Unlike some towns, Medusa isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Medusa are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Medusa is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Medusa who work in sales jobs (12.75%), management occupations (10.85%), and office and administrative support (8.22%).

Also of interest is that Medusa has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Setting & Lifestyle

Another notable thing is that Medusa is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.

Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Medusa is worth considering.

One downside of living in Medusa, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 31.83 minutes every day commuting to work.

Medusa Demographics

In terms of college education, Medusa is somewhat better educated than the 21.84% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 28.04% of adults 25 and older in the town have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Medusa in 2018 was $38,718, which is upper middle income relative to New York, and wealthy relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $154,872 for a family of four. However, Medusa contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Medusa home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Medusa residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Medusa include Irish, German, Italian, English, and Dutch.

The most common language spoken in Medusa is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Italian.
